Elon Musk’s Space X is seeking FCC approval for broadband terminals on vessels in the US and International waters, but the request is still in pending. In a letter that Space X director of satellite policy sent last year to the US Federal Communications Commission, was asking for approval to take it’s existing Starlink satellite internet service on the move , with connections on vehicles, vessels and aircrafts.
Space X was approved to launch and operate a 4400 strong satellite network around Earth, to provide broadband internet services. Starlink as the approval for up to a million Earth stations which allow end-users to connect to the satellite network and access the internet. For now the approval is for fixed stations , not for mobile ones.
As we are all happy and waiting for the miracle to happen, Space X requested permission to put Space X end user terminals as Vehicle Mounted Earth Stations, Earth Stations on Vessels in the US territorial waters, also international waters worldwide and Earth Stations Aboard Aircraft.
SpaceX CEO Elon Musk, clarified on his posts on Twitter, that the stations would be only suitable for larger vehicles or vessels, they will be the same on the inside but will have specific mounts to suit their need. All consumers tend to interact with broadband platforms on a large scale worldwide, in a variety of ways, so why not all users can connect freely and easily while on the move, driving a truck , moving a freighter or while on a domestic or international flight.
This might be the future of internet 3.0, everyone will have access to internet and a new era will emerge? Who knows, stay toned and subscribe to our blog, to be always informed about what’s happening in the industry and around the world.
